Insurance for imported car

Hi all,
Trying to help out a friend in need. Cross-posting this to the motoring board too in hope of a quick response as I might not have net access later in the day.
My friend has had her car insured with (I think) Halifax for about 3 years since she bought it -- however they're now refusing to renew the insurance becausr they've suddenly decided to classify the car as "imported" (it's Opel rather than Vauxhall). She has tried Churchill and others, but drawn a blank (i.e. refusal to insure the vehicle) for the same reason.
Does anyone have experience of this, and if so can you advice where she can get a sensible, good value quote on an "imported" vehicle?
Many thanks

I've got a Mitsubishi Pajero which is a Japanese import, similar to a Shogun but higher spec. There is a Pajero owners club web site which has an insurers forum http://www.pocuk.com/forums/viewforum.php?f=16&sid=426b008ff745d8c7c26505806e9af7ee This may help you get a quote as they deal with imports all the time0

Tesco used to be pretty good at insuring imported cars ... try them for a quote.

Tesco is part of RBS insurance group, so direct Line, privilege and their kind may be of some help.
One reason why it is so difficult to insure imported cars (I was told) is that repairs are more expensive and usually lead to problems from irate customers. There you go.Don't bother trying to sue me - I've got no money!0 -
Thanks for all replies, she managed to arrange new insurance with the AA, and the premium came out less than what she'd been paying Halifax, so justice is done!0
