I'm interested in getting a tumble dryer and was wondering if anyone has got a gas tumble dryer?
I have read that they are more economical is that right?
Any other models apart from the white knight version?
Many thanks for any replies....

I wouldn't bother if I were you......I am a gas engineer who as serviced and repaired gas tumble driers in the past. Also I have owned one myself. They are very expensive and because of the neccessary safety controls break down often. I think it would be quite differcult to find a corgi engineer to come out to repair it. So consequently you might have to use the manufacturers engineers and that would be expensive.
In the products of combustion from a gas flame there is much water vapour and I have wondered how this would effect efficiency when removing moisture from clothes. Given the way gas prices are rising I don't think there would be a fuel saving to be made.
All the best .....Brian.0 -
I forgot to mention Cannon used to make them too....don't know if they still do.0

I have a white knight , the 4.7kw model and love it. Dries clothes in 40 mins, cheap to run . The savings soon outweigh the extra purchase cost. Highly reccomended so buy one.
According to this site 34p a load leccy or 9p gas - one load a day at 25p difference is £91 a year, dryer pays for its self within 3 years. http://www.crosslee.co.uk/gas.html

Good morning: We have a Whirlpool gas dryer (North American full size) and it works a treat...quick drying time and takes two loads from our washing machine...have had it for almost 5 years and have haven't had a single problem with it to date.
Good luck.Ask to see CIPHE (Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering)0 -

Looks like the white knight is the best bet then

We have the White Knight model too, it's never broken down unlike my previous electric models, it really gets stuff dry quickly and cut down our electric bill. I have had mine since 1993 and it's fine, a relative has an older one with 2 small children it's used daily and it's been going since 1990.0

White knight only do 2 models ( althouh new look front models now available) . 3kw model is around £240 and 4.7 around £280 ( mine was £279 at https://www.deals4u.co.uk , cheapest I could find at the time)
My first white knight was 50 quid from the free ads and I got 3 years outa that. I wouldnt reccomend buying used but as I am qualified in gas it wasn`t a problem to me.
Bear in mind the installation cost by Corgi engineer ( depends how near gas suppy is ) , venting kit ( usually needed) and if buying used the cost of having the dryer safety checked/ serviced before use.
If Looking at short term costs an electric dryer is possibly better for you .On the internet you can be anything you want. It`s strange so many people choose to be rude and stupid.0 -

I was asking on behalf of my mummy dearest as her dryer (a White Knight) has given up after 23 years (it was a wedding prezzy  ).
Luckly my dad and brother are Corgi Engineers so gas and plumbling are never a problem in our house
