A whole set of them on Ebay for ~£70

Might be worth trying Ebuyer as well.

Most of the sellers on Ebay include fitting instructions, which are easy to follow.

What is the exact model of your laptop. Going on ebay price best is £66.90 if your confident in doing the repair yourself then this or similar solution is the way to go.
Check with the local shop exactly what is included in the quoted price is some form of warranty for the repaired screen included?. if yes then despite been more than the DIY approach this may be a better option for yourself.

My daughter's screen on her HP G6000 cracked and she needs a new one. I see there are many for sale on E-Bay. Is it fairly easy to fit a new one?

Yep. Remove the screws on the screen bezel, seperate the bezel from the back, undo the connector on the inverter at the bottom of the panel, undo the four screws on each side of the panel that hold it onto the hinge, tilt forward and remove the ribbon cable. Remove the inverter board at the bottom. Reverse to refit
