Planting potatoes which were sprouting in fridge

It's likely that the chits (shoots) are long pale and spindly, whereas normally you chit spuds in a light frost free area to encourage stubby dark green sprouts.
If they are long and spindly, they will probably snap off when you plant them - it doesn't mean they wont regrow underground but the crop is likely to be small with tiny spuds.
Personally I wouldn't bother. Shop bought spuds are not certified virus free unlike the spuds you buy specifically as seed potatoes, saying that I did plant some Sante that had sold out in the catalogues, but found half price in Morrisons, and they came up a treat - however they were chitted as above and not in the fridge.
Why not try it, don't pin all your hopes on them, but nothing ventured nothing gained.0 -
If you leave the potatoes in a light area for a few days they will harden up a bit and be easier to plant....I never miss an opportunity to sow free spuds, lots of salad ones in greenhouse which I have to stop OH from digging up.

Of course you can plant them but beware you will not have the level of protection from blight and diseases seed potato's have. The solving of a problem lies in finding the solvers.0

You can try it but don't exepct brilliant results then anything you do get will be a bonus. I once planted 3 kestrel potatoes that got a bit sprouty. I stuck them on a windowsill to get the chits green & strong then stuck them in a bucket. We got a bucket of good though not huge potatoes. They will not be disease free like the proper seed potatoes though, which is why it's taking pot luck.2026's challenges: 1) To rebuild our Emergency Fund to at least £5k.

Remember....if you have to put it on a credit card, extend your overdraft or take out a loan to buy whatever it is, you probably can't afford it, as that's not your money, it's somebody else's!0
