Drive in its current state?? is it even allowed on the road??
I do not think anybody can estimate the amount it will cost, as each garage is very different, main dealers obviously costing a lot more than a back street garage.
Can the garage that failed the car not give you a price for the work??0 -

So you didn't check lights and tyres before submitting the car for its MOT?
Car is absolutely not safe to drive in its current state.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care
Oh I wish I was a punk rocker with flowers in my hair0 -
If you take your car in for an MOT before its due to expire, technicly you still have a vaild MOT, although it is now all linked up to a central system so this may no longer apply?
Nothing major there and the most expensive things will be the ball joints and handbrake cable.0 -
Yea the mot runs out may 22nd. But i wanted to take for MOT sooner rather than later. But i think ill just get it all repaired before driving again.0
-
what car is it
bulbs 75p each
antiroll bar link £20
handbrake cable £25
fuel filter (corroded probably) £15
labour circa 1/1.5 hours
all prices are estimates0 -
Definitely sort the bulbs yourself. The indicator flash rate problem is *probably* due to a bulb that's on the way out, so replace them.0
-
Buy all the parts yourself off the net from places like Euro Car Parts. Then find an Indy garage to fit them. Usually works out cheaper.
I had a quote once for some work doing and it was near £800. Got the parts myself off the net for £250 then paid a mechanic £100 to fit them. Result.0 -
Whether or not the MOT is still valid is irrelevant. It is illegal to drive a vehicle that is not roadworthy on a public highway.
The MOT only certifies that the vehicle was roadworthy on the day it was tested (ie, 22/05/09).Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
Hi,
If the car was unsafe you would jave got a Prhibition Notice and the MOT station would have told you that it is illegal to drive the vehicle on the Public Highway.

complete & utter nonsense, MOT testers can’t issue prohibition notices and any un-roadworthy car is by definition illegal to drive on the highway0
