Items lost in post ...

I posted four items a week ago today, by 1st class recorded delivery. Two of these have failed to reach the buyers. After 5 business days have elapsed (ie: tomorrow), I will refund the buyers and claim compensation from RM.
I understand that Ebay will refund some fees if I notify them that the transactions have been cancelled. Is this correct and how do I notify them please?

What does the tracking say? 5 business days is very early I would normally wait till at least 10 and most buyers are happy with this. On saturday I received a 1st class item that was post 9 days earlier

You cant claim for compensation until 15 working days

Also have your buyers stated items have not been received as in some areas the RM tracking for recorded never ever shows as delivered.

new bank cards arrived here Saturday with recorded slips on them (they usually come by courier so I was quite surprised), none of which I signed for and none show as delivered.

Claiming for recorded can be difficult as quite often the RM know th eitem has arrived so will not pay out despite the tracking saying otherwise.

Yes, buyers have both been in touch to say items not received.
Tracking says when & where the parcel was posted, and that it 'is being progressed through our delivery system'.
RM website seems to suggest that 1st class recorded should take no longer than 5 business days?
So, my question is really about how to notify ebay of a cancelled transaction, and hopefully get some fees refunded?

You can't really do that until you deal with the RM claim and you can't do that for 15 working days. RM may suggest that 5 working days is normal for 1st, but they still don't allow you to do anything before the 15 working days.

Ideally get your buyers to wait another week and then refund them. After that send a mutual to recover FVfs on the basis of item refunded as not arrived. Then after 15 working days cklaim from RM. If you refund too early and then goods arrive you are stuck as you no longer have any claim to RM.

OK, thanks. What do you mean by 'send a mutual' please?

Once you have refunded the buyer and all is well then go to the 'resolve a problem' tab in the drop down menu on your sold page by the item . (I think that is where it is), then you should have the option to ask buyer for an agreement to get your FVFs back. In fact you might not even have to ask the buyer, but it has been ages since i've done that and I don't exactly know the new procedure.

As for the Royal Mail all standard mail apart from the noted exceptions like tickets jewellery etc, is covered up to £41 for loss. You'll need a claim form for each item from the PO and you'll need to supply copies of all your ebay documentation . I usually send my ebay page showing the item and the paypal page showing the refund made.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Both items were worth less than £41, so they should be covered.
