Planted beetroot too deep :(
Hello
Got a bit carried away yesterday getting things planted :j which I'm very excited about.
However my beetroot seeds didn't have instructions on how deep to plant them, so I put them in about 10cm deep. However looking at my book it looks as if they should have been more like 2cm:eek:
I also didn't realise each seed is actually a cluster of seeds so have planted far too many!!
Not sure whether to try digging them up and planting a bit closer to the surface (that is if I can find them lol)! Or just leave them and hope for the best...
Really hope they work, I got rid of all the stones in the patch I planted them in. I know I should have read the book before putting them in, was just so excited to get them in
If anyone has any thoughts would be hugely appreciated.

i would just leave them
you would spend forever in the hope of finding them and probably wouldnt find the all
i dont think you have much option really unless you seived all the soil
a long and thankless task
start again
chances are your newly planted ones will be up and ready by the time your 1st ones surface if they ever do
beetroot are easy to grow
rake your soil, i just poke my finger in a little, drop a seed, do the all and a light rake again, i grow lots of beets and never have any problems0 -
I planted my spuds miles too deep last year and they were fine.0

If you have space elsewhere to sow more seed, then do so....but you might be pleasantly surprised and find that the ones you have already sown, do germinate, though take a little longer.Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

10cm! No seed goes anywhere near that far down, are you sure you put them 10cm deep?
I would sow some more, I can't see any way that they would come up from that deep.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
As a very general rule, seeds need covering with soil about the same depth as their diameter - so not so very much! I tend to sow a bit deeper, but I'd only plant bulbs that deep!It is never too late to become what you were always intended to be0

Thank you for your replies - I am going to leave them there, but also plant some more.
I think I put them that deep thinking they would grow like bulbs - as you can tell I'm new to this lol!
I''m fairly sure they were that deep, I had dug out a load of soil to sift through for stones, so put some back in, then the seeds, then more soil. I could be wrong tho, fingers crossed.
I will know for next time anyway0
