Am I entitled to JSA?

Hi everyone,

I've been working abroad for the past year and just returned on friday. I have been searching for work whilst abroad and unfortunately have not secured anything as of now (having to inform potential employers I have a 2 month notice period usually cut the conversations short!). My main reason for coming home is my mum has been ill and is currently signed off work and I am now living with her at home.

Under the circumstances am I likely to be approved for any JSA? as I did end my employment voluntarily.

Many thanks,

Tom

JSA (c) will be judged on your NI contributions and JSA (IB) would be judged on your financial postion i.e. you didn't qualify for JSA (C) etc.

A decision maker will decided whether you had just cause in leaving employment and what you did to secure alternative employment and could stop payment for up to 26 weeks, though you could appeal if a negative decision and maybe get hardship payments. I don't know whether a job abroad will make any difference to your claim.

In practice, the decision-maker is unlikely to contact your employer abroad to establish precisely why you left.

This is not the experience I have had. A DM is just as likely to write to an overseas employer, they would not be doing their job if they did not.
    Gone ... or have I?
