powerbase wrote:Hi,
A couple of questions and some general advice would be appreciated.
Is my basic understanding of how to take online payments via a website correct?
Is streamline a good merchant account?
Would it be better getting a merchant account not connected to my business bank account?
I know at the start it may be initially more expensive but I think it would encourage more customers and not put them off the way paypoo does.
Any advice on getting a merchant account setting it up? Anything better than protx out there?
Thanks for listening.
Regards
If you can get a direct merchant account then do so. this way you have complete control over processing transactions and refunds. process the amount you want and when, it really is a big benefit.
You'll pay a flat fee for debit cards (25p ish) and a percent for credit cards (2.5% ish - this depends on volume).
There are a few big processors out there, Streamline being one. They tend to be quite strict so if they'll give you an account a good move. Also consider Alliance and Leicester (Euroconex). Very good rates.
Advantage of moving away from your bank is that all your money is kept individual, eg your card risk is not lumped in with assets at bank. Using your own bank for CC processing though convenient, personally i'd like my eggs in different baskets.
Once you have a direct account you can debit (upsell:) and refund no hassle. And of course manage any fraud risks and chargebacks through SEC / address verification.0 -

Hi,
Just wondering how many other people have done this? We only realised a few months ago that this was possible and we're now considering it. However, people who telephone us with their credit card details are doing so because they don't want their card used on the Internet. So entering the card into Secpay manually would be a bit

We still pay a considerable amount per month for our terminal rental and this has been going on for 5 years now. Surely by now we have paid for the machine about 20 times over. :mad:0
