I am now on my second attempt to grow rhubarb from seed as the first lot died.

Any one had any success?

Why! find a neighbour with rhubarb and ask for a 'lump'

Or are you after a special variety ?

Yep, OH planted the pack I bought this year, and all have germinated.

Wallbash, I went down this route, cause dad had so many probs he could not split me a crown, and the plant I bought died.

Ever thought that I don't have neighbours who I either know well enough or have any rhubarb. And with out wanting to appear rude. Don't you think I would have already done that if it was an option.

I also have a plant in the garden. But wanted another plant.

So wanted to try and grow some from seed as I got them really cheap.

Not sure why I have to explain why I want to try and grow a certain crop.

It takes a lot to upset me.

Just not sure why you wasted posting a rely. I was asking about seeds so not sure why you had to reply when your answer had nothing to do with my question.

Also really don't care if you thought it was rude as I think your reply started with why!!! was rude. And the reply not helpful at all.

I've sown some rhubarb seed only last week so i will let you know how i get on with it, I did buy a rhubarb crown but it didn't do anything and when i poked around the earth it was soft and unhealthy looking so i bought the seeds and thought i would give them a go. I sowed them in a very large pot/container.

Yes, did this last year and the rhubarb is looking quite good so far this year - don't forget, you don't eat the stalks in the first year.

I grew from seed years ago, but it was a very disappointing result, spindly stalks, but it was named seed from a well known company, not some old cheapo store, it really seemed like I had wasted a few years on the experiment, so whilst I would never do it again, good luck to you

I think they take a few years to start to produce proper decent sized stalks, I think it was on the BBC gardening show, The rootball was a couple of feet in size.

    Mine are nowhere near that.

Also mentioned you should not pick for 3 or 4 years, Just a few stalks in the 3rd year?

I tend to pick any that are over 1cm thick as long as it leaves 4 stalks. had 700g so far.

Am i sad for weighing them?
