keeping my car insurance down

A few weeks back i was involved in a car accident where i went into the back of a van. My car was an insrance write off so i had it scrapped but theres was nothing more than a damaged light. I offered to pay for there damage but as it was a company van (dairy crest) i was told that it would have to go through insurance.
As i was at fault (rear collision) ive lost all my 2 years no claims and insurance quotes have rocketed! is there any way in which i can keep costs down??????

There's a guide on this site that allows you to 'tweak' your job title to save a few pounds:

    http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-insurance-job-picker/

For example, by describing my IT job as 'technician / engineer' instead of 'software developer' saved me £50.

As long as you don't 'tweak' being a cleaner into an accountant it's all above board...

To be honest theres not much you can do realistically:

    • Buy a car that is deemed low risk (old and cheap)
    • Agree to a massive excess
    • Wait until it is 30-60 days before your birthday (if you are young.)
    • Try a 10 month policy (go to Admiral/Elephant sites.)
    • Move to the countryside :)
Your best bet is to get a low risk car and drive it for one year to build NCD. After 2/3 years the fault claim will have a smaller effect on your premiums (after 5 it's gone.)

I used to work for a software house dealing with insurance quotations, so I know quite a lot about a few insurers!
