Yes, I agree, and it seems my DH and I just miss out on every benefit and just have to pay every new one.

I was born in Feb 1956 so I'm in the first batch of women that has to work all the way till 65. At the same time my last child couldn't start school till after Easter, then they changed the rule the following year so he could have started two terms sooner and gave out child care vouchers and all sorts! If my daughter was 3 days older she would not be borrowing £3000 uni tuition fees.

But then again .......... Sorry, rant over!

Oh, and they stopped mortgage tax relief the year we got one and married persons tax allowance the year we got married.

no one will ever be lucky, apart from the people that are the politicians soundbites

What I was trying to say was that the Government wouldn't be any worse off by paying her the fuel allowance because she used to get that when she lived alone. It is just difficult for us to pay the increased fuel charges, particularly because they have gone up any way and also because I am no longer working and I am not eligible for the carer's allowance.

Margaret, they don't see you as helping them out - they see you as the opposite, a cost saved.
Some people object to this by apathy when voting, some people object to it by voting for a "stupid" party.

Has anyone at the Pension Service told you your relative doesn't qualify?
    Have you applied?

I thought that the benefit was available if anyone in the house attained the qualifying age.
Its £300 if you are over 80.

My aunt hasn't received fuel allowance before and is not on any benefits. Is there someone she can ring for a claim form, she doesn't have access to internet to download it.

My mother (who is over 80) came to live with us last November. I have had to give up my part-time job to look after her. Our gas bills have increased because we have to have the central heating on all day. Can we claim the heating allowance? We are both in our 50's. My husband is disabled.

She will get the winter fuel allowance in her own right - I believe it's £300 for the over-80s.

    Here it is:

The payment is tax free and is paid either on a benefit system (for those in receipt of state pension/pension credit etc) or if you qualify (aged 60 or over during or before the qualifying week) and are not receiving a benefit then you need to complete a claim form, obtainable from the helpline 08459 151515 or from the pension service website.

And no it's not means tested.

  • I don't have a house in England and have lived in France permanently since 1989. My husband is 76 and I am 72 and we get the OA Pension together with the £10 Christmas Bonus. Can I ask for a heating allowance? Any advice very gratefully received.

The regulations were changed so that sertain people in the EEA can receive a WFP. Unfortunately as you have been residing permenantly in France since 1989 you are not eligible to receive a payment. You would have had to been living in the UK and received/claimed a WFP before moving to France to be eligible to continue receiving a payment.
