Im assuming you'll be travelling with East Coast? Therefore book your tickets via East Coast website- easy to use, no booking fee and collect your tickets free from Fast Ticket Machines!
Tickets for train travel are sold from 12 weeks before departure, and this is the moment when they are most cheapest! They only become more expensive.
My tip is for you to look where 12 weeks is before your train trip and put this in your diary to book your trip:D-( I make this 1st of June to book tickets)
Make sure you do read the t+c of your advance tickets!"No likey no need to hit thanks button!":pHowever its always nice to be thanked if you feel mine and other people's posts here offer great advice:D So hit the button if you likey:rotfl:0 -
the cheapest tickets done come out until 12 weeks prior to travel, I'm travelling from Scotland to London in October and was advised to check 13 weeks before and it will give you a hint as the cheapest tickets will be for one week before you want to go, i've also read that it's better to go straight for the train companies websites as there is no booking fee's to pay. You should also read the threads about split ticketing, it gives food for thought. Thanks to all the competition posters.0

Note that the full price tickets go on sale before the cheap ones, sometimes several weeks - DO NOT be panicked into buying them. They will be the same price on the day if it really comes to it (which it won't)
You might also want to look at Grand Central Trains if Sunderland is a good starting point for you.0 -

Play around with the tickets, have a look at single split ticket prices as well as returns, there can be a major difference.
Last year i went to Oxford from Leeds, stopping at Birmingham, then onto Oxford - 2 sep tickets cost me £32. (singles)
Return ticket from Leeds to Oxford £98 (singles)
Same back again to leeds. Saved £122.
You need a spare couple of hours if your new to it and a pen and paper..lolmake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
