Kitchen revamp/redesign

Hi Guys,

I would like to get a designer to have a look at my kitchen. I am on a tight budget (upto 4K for the whole kitchen) and its a bloody big kitchen (5M x 4M). Some bits I think we can get away with just new doors, other bits may need new units.

How much would a designer charge me? I don't want someone who will just say replace the whole lot - just to get more business.

I am in the Chester area.

I have done a forum search on theis - but there are soo many hits that I am taking my time to go through each one.

Thanks for reading - hope you can help.

If you go yo B & Q , Howdens, Magnets, Home base or Wickes and say you are thinking of having a a kitchen fitted, they will send someone out for free. You are under no obligation to buy their units and it will give you some idea of what is achievable and a ball park figure.

I agree, don't even think of paying a designer... I am also near Chester & just ordered a new kitchen. I went to Magnet, B&Q, Wickes, Wren (even though everyone on here hates them!) and a local independent supplier. They all came up with completely different designs & I picked the bits I liked & built into my final design.

The best (Wren, and the local company - who I eventually chose) really went out of their way to change their design based on my feedback & come up with my perfect kitchen.

They were all free but each visit took at least an hour and a half, so it was time consuming. But the thing is - every design I had done was better than the last!

My final design (kitchen is 3.5m x 4m) is just under £2.5k for supply only, excluding sink/tap & appliances, which I've shopped around for to get the best prices. So your budget sounds do-able (but of course don't forget paint, tiles etc cos they all add up!)
