Customs Charges Handling Importing From America

Hi

I am looking to import some speakers from the states. They are $160/£120 roughly

What extra charges do i have to pay, if any, where and when?

Does anybody know or had any experience with importing high value goods?

You will pay VAT on the item value plus postage cost. There may be a few per cent duty as well and a clearance fee of 8 to 15 pounds depending on the carrier. It may get through with no charges being applied, but don't bank on this.

If they are not +/- 25% cheaper than buying here then not worth bothering with. Plus they will be heavy and expensive to post back if you ahve a problem.

What happens if you have a warranty claim? You want to be making a decent saving otherwise better buying in the UK.
