Another issue not mentioned so far is what the other tenants in the place will make of having someone else competing for space in the kitchen and bathroom. This could easily cause ill feeling in the house. Have they been asked how they would feel if you joined the household?

Is it a wise move with all the other tenants being students and you working full time.

Students tend not to keep regular hours which may interfere with your sleep patterns.

From personal experience, this can be a nightmare of a situation. I would never choose to live with students if I had to get up every day to go to work. It just isn't good for anyone.

The problem with admitting to the Local Authority that you are living there permanently and therefore liable for CT is that when you leave in September and need the account closed they will be looking to you to supply a copy of your rental agreement to confirm the date of the end of your tenancy. Which you won't have. This could cause all sorts of unwanted and unpleasant financial complications for you, all for the sake of being with your BF for four months or less.

Would they? My ex moved out eight months ago (my own flat) and he was removed from the CT bill with no quibbles. Might be a problem if the other tenants refuse to take over the account, but why would they if they are all exempt students?

I think your circumstances are different in that your CT account wasn't closed, just amended to reflect the 25% single-person occupancy discount. I've heard of people being asked by the LA for sight of their rental agreement to prove they have moved out of a property and asked for a final account. This seems like a whole world of complications and all for the sake of shacking up with BF for four months. I suspect there are other issues not disclosed which are pressing the OP to make this move, perhaps the uni stuff touched on earlier

The old account was definitely closed and a new one opened, I have a completely different account number and they are refusing to transfer an overpayment over. Same thing happened in the reverse direction when he moved in! Perhaps some local authorities are more strict than others? I've never had an issue when I was in rental myself, and I didn't always have an AST.

I would imagine the OP will have an AST for her new house in September, clearly she won't be liable for two rental properties simultaneously. The important thing is to be above board and do everything promptly, provide forwarding addresses and such like.
