Waitrose voucher acceptance

I emailed them yesterday and this is the reply I got. I think its great. My nearest Waitrose is 5 miles away, but if I can definitely use 5 vouchers, INCLUDING internet coupons, it would be well worth it, and they may not even have limited it to 5 depending on store

Good Morning ,

Thank you for your e mail ,

Cashiers must accept suppliers’ coupons for any product which
we sell including Waitrose Food Illustrated coupons, whether or
not the customer is purchasing the item for which the coupon
was issued.

Cashiers may accept any quantity of coupons provided the
coupons are valid however most branches have taken the decision
to only accept 5 coupons per customer due to some mis-abuse .

Coupons can not be accepted solely in exchange for cash.

Before accepting a coupon the cashier must check that:
it is in date
it contains a notice to the retailer explaining how
redemption is to be made
the coupon is for a general offer and not for one
restricted to specific retailers
if several coupons and/or voucher/s are required for one
offer they are all present

If the coupons come to more than the value of the customer‘s
shopping change may not be given to the customer, instead the
difference must be treated as left change.

Internet Supplier Coupons
Coupons issued .via the internet will be accepted on the same
basis as other supplier coupons, provided the customer does not
present a large quantity.

I hope this information is helpful .

Regards,

Lorraine Laye

    Hi Davodedthomas,
I'm back from my hols in the New Forest now, very interesting to catch up on the latest voucher discussions (but your post of that printable £2.49ish voucher last month was the best! Thanks again, I stocked up 4 the holiday!).

Well, while in the New Forest I found a Waitrose (Lymington) and thought I'd try some money-off coupons (which I keep in the car in date order so always have them with me!). I had never tried Waitrose before.

Anyway, in the 4 visits I made in the fortnight I used about £40-worth of various vouchers, mostly ones that will expire at the end of the month. I had been worried about using them all up in time at my local Tesco (which only takes 5 different ones each time unless I find a new SA on a till).

Waitrose staff were all very friendly, particularly the young girl who happily scanned over £20-worth of 50p coupons individually, smiling and chatting as she did so. I had checked as I went round the aisles that the item on the coupons -Nicorette gum - was stocked by them, and it was.

I had bought these coupons ages ago on eBay, probably cost me a third of face-value (haven't needed to buy any on ebay since Easter as I have so many now, and postings, like yours, on MSE help immensely!).

I shall try out my nearest Waitrose in the coming weeks, as I also found that some products were cheaper than Tesco!! (e.g. they have 26-pack Walkers crisps at £1.99 - till early Sept - which is a pound cheaper than usual).

  • Hey Coupon-mad,

I agree, Waitrose is really not THAT expensive. And their reductions at the end of the day are out of this world. Whole chickens with 2 days left on expiry date for 10p as an example. They really do reduce to clear! Its really exciting getting a whole trolley for about 5.00 and then (from now on) using coupons to pay for it all!

I wonder if they take the 1.00 Quick Read vouchers? I will have to try it. Will definitely be taking more advantage of magazine coupons in the newspapers now because I know that Waitrose will take them, whereas Tesco was a bit hit and miss

    Dai

    Hi Davodedthomas,
Wow I shall have to look in my local Waitrose for the reductions, I love a bargain! Tesco normally only reduce manky-looking meat and stuff that has to be used that day, and even then the price only goes down by 20p...

Glad to see you have taken that leap of faith and started to say to cashiers those simple words 'can you scan any of these coupons for me please?'.

    It's quite easy isn't it!!! :T

That word just baffles me: it's either misuse or abuse - what the hell is mis-abuse = the opposite of abuse?

But anyway, thanks for the post David. :) No Waitrose near me unfortunately but will kep in mind for travel etc. :)

  • On two occasions at my local Waitrose (central london) I have tried unsuccesfully to use (newspaper) coupons. Both times I have been told that I need to be purchasing the product the coupon specifies. I didnt want to kick up a fuss as there were long queues of people behind me and it was pretty embarassing so have given up trying.
But reading this thread makes me wonder if I should give it another try. What should I do if the same thing happens again?
You have no respect for logic...and I have no respect for those with no respect for logic

Well you can't insist (unless you are buying the product on the coupon).

But I would try again because Waitrose Head Office have an official coupon policy, maybe the SA you went to didn't know or didn't want the hassle.

Try a young male cashier if there is one, or a young girl if not. Avoid the jobsworth middle-aged women who act as if the money is coming out of their pocket!!

  • The email has given me lots of confidence now, and if I am refused in Waitrose, I will just politely inform them that the company has an official coupon policy and to ask their supervisor. They should then confirm the above. Might even take the email with me for back up if needed.

    :T

Must admit I haven't shopped in Waitrose much recently as a Tescos has opened nearby, and they give away ( R&R) and virtually give away so much stuff, I cannot resist. Pot luck as usual, but end of day/sell by date reductions can be down to 10p on meat, ready cook meals, fruit and desserts. I've had smoked salmon, fresh scottish salmon, Fillet steak, stroganovs, and last week a huge fresh cream Chocolate Roulade....all only 10p each:D .
One night they were reducing HUNDREDS of 6 packs of yogurt drink to 10p ( cannot remember which one) - so obviously some-one made a major c*ck up with the ordering or stock rotation. I took 2 packs (on bogof) and was persuaded by floor manager to take another half dozen ( was only 2 or 3 customers left in the store ) They even came to me at the check out to see if I wanted a few more. Kids got fed up of the sight of them by the end.;)

Yet when I went to a Huge 24hr Tesco a few weeks ago, their end of the day reductions were ABYSMAL, and come 10pm they simply cleared the reduced stock, whether it was then just for staff I don't know. Presume its down to manager on duty at the time, or individual stores to decide how far they reduce things.

Back to Waitrose, they do have some great reductions, and they stock some VERY nice lines - we love their apricot and almond stuffing ....Yum yum
So far I've had no luck with them accepting coupons, but I will have to try again and ask them what their policy is !!
