  • Could be the diverter valve sticking.

Also, is there a room thermostat and is it turned up - silly I know but its often the simple things that get overlooked.

Told my mate what u said..his reply?
yep - room thermostat is turned up - checked that - u can hear it clicking so thermostat works - but the central heating doesnt start though

emmm - wats a diverter valve???
    Thanks again
  • The diverter valve is used to divert the water flow from the boiler to either the cental heating or the hot water cylinder. The valve also signals to the boiler when to fire up, so if it gets stuck or fails in some way, the boiler will not fire up. It is normally located in the airing cupboard somewhere near the pump.

This all assumes the boiler is not a combi boiler, but is a standard gas fired boiled with an indirect hot water tank.

Im having this problem also, bit silly but I dont know what kind of a boiler I have. My house was built 6 years ago by a large building company. If I cant get it to work before selling my house anyone know how much it will cost to fix?
