stock portfolio spreadsheet

Hi guys, I'm wondering whether you can tell me where i can download a simple spreadsheet to track a portfolio. It would be ideal to have something which downloads share prices automatically from the internet into the spreadsheet. If there isn't anything like this, a simple template would be fine. OR alternatively a software?

Many thanks in advance..

Lefty

Any particular reason you can't use one of the online services that do essentially what you're after?

I use http://www.iii.co.uk/portfolio for example (you'll need to create an account to login, but you don't have to pay anything.)

-o I am humble -o You are attention seeking -o She is Nadine Dorries

I would be interested in the replies to this thread also.

My shares are bought via H-L so would be nice to see them a bit clearer to keep track.

You can make your own? :)

I created my own on spreadsheet. For example:

Price: Closing Price on every market trading day
    Holding: The amount of Shares/Gilt
Value: Closing Price times Amount of Shares in pounds
Return: (Value minus Cost) divided by Cost times 100
Cost: The cost of each company shares/Gilts

The only problem with this is the fact you have to update the sheet every single day.
And another problem is that the foreign holding are complex with currency exchange rate, so I just focused on UK Portfolio.

There are a number of free personal finance software apps out there.

GNUCash is fairly well liked and has a Stocks/Shares module. I haven't run it myself so cannot provide any first hand expereince although it will download UK prices for stocks (and unit trusts, if you find the right code) by adding a '.L' to the code (for London).

Also QuoteTracker is quite good just for tracking stocks prices etc, although its UI is a bit quirky and does a lot more than just track prices.

    Hello,

I use the Excel Add-in 'MSNStockQuote'. for instance =MSNStockQuote("vod","Last Price","GB") this will give you the last price for Vodafone, there are a whole array of options you can choose.
You could also try using Excel to import a Web Query from Yahoo or Google Finance.

I use Trustnet. They let me include anything, including cash, whereas many others wouldn't when I started searching for a good portfolio service. My portfolio is split into Cash, Shares, OEICS and Investment Trusts. The only thing I cannot list is a holding in
Deutsche Post which I acquired after the sale of a UK company. Like the above poster I use HL but only for the purchase of Unit Trusts/OEICS. The Trustnet portfolio page is much more comprehensive than HL.

Is this software Trustnet free? thanks for the input guys. The Excel add-in sounds good too and I'll have a go at it!
