I'm definitely claiming off his policy, it's just that my company (Tesco) are doing the running around for me. It's my first proper collision in 15 years of driving so I wasn't really confident enough to deal with his insurers myself.

If you are going to get a hire car as part of the deal I think it is entirely possible that the car will be written off. The bonnet is creased, so is the slam panel damaged/moved? Pound to a penny both the headlight mounts will be broken too.

Sorry, no idea what the slam panel is and wouldn't know if the headlight mounts are broken - I'm a girl ;)

A hire car has been delivered, a mere snip at £1400 for the estimated 22 days  I actually feel sorry for the other insurance company as that's extortionate.

FYI the slam panel is the bit under the bonnet that runs around the front edge of the car behind the grille :).

    Glad it's getting sorted :D
