Car window problem

The passenger window on my peugoet has a problem. yesterday, when opening the window, there was a grating sound, as though something was grating against the window, which left marks on the window on the inside. It opened fully, but on closing it the window now will only open part way. There is still the grating sound as well. Someone suggested putting some silicone spray on the window, and I wondered if anyone else has any suggestions, please.

needs a new window regulator
spray will do nothing as the cables have frayed0
