Santander cancelled my cards by mistake - advice please

I had two current accounts with Santander. The second account wasn't used very much so I went into the branch yesterday and closed it. However, I then went out to dinner and was horrified to find that my debit card for my main account was declined. Came home and rang the bank to find that they have cancelled the card on my primary account too! I'm very upset - I was supposed to be going away for a few days and I've had to cancel all my plans and it's really ruined my weekend. I got to speak to a manager on the phone yesterday and said I wish to make a formal complaint. Does anyone have any advice for me?

    Do santander offer faster payments?

Can you not transfer the money into another account?

Maybe another account in your name, friend or family.

No they've royally stuffed me. Was meant to be going to London to stay with friends and have had to cancel.

I already told them I expect compensation. I'm not usually the type to go for that but on this occasion, they can suffer for their incompetence. I think a fee of £25 per transaction in line with their own charge structure would be appropriate :D

So going to move banks after this. May I add this is the second !!!! up in two months.

They would not be able to do a CHAPS payment over the weekend anyway :-)
