Working my redundancy notice

OK, first told I'd be expected to work my notice. Then told PILON would apply as my post AND workload had been cut. (Both the 'work' then 'PILON' are in writing.) Now told there is work I could do during notice period.

Thanks, but no thanks. While consultation has been ongoing I've been doing some of this 'work' - demeaning, junior stuff, bounced from section to section doing 'oddjobs', filing, photocopying, stuffing envelopes. Anything these teams have that no-one else wants to do.

So am I within my rights to refuse to be bounced about further. to say "identify a PROPER role for me to fill during notice period or pay me PILON"? Yes, I'm overpaid for what I'm expected to spend my time doing, I'm also bored rigid and don't feel it's doing me any favours to spend a total of 3 months doing it.

What is the position which has become redundant? What does your contract say about other work you could be asked to do?

Has anyone else in your company been made redundant and been allowed to leave on PILON ?

Is there a 'custom and practice' element here - myself and most of my colleagues have been made redundant and although I have been invited to stay on a retention bonus until July, everyone else has been allowed to leave because it is what the custom and practice has been in the past.

Whats in your contract about your role?
Asuming it is not to broad, I think I would push back and remind them that as part of consultation and during any notice they should still be looking at potentialy suitable alternative positions, these odd jobs are not suitable alternatives.

If your current possition is no longer required they should either terminate with PILON or put you on garden leave untill the notice runs out or they find a potentialy suitable alternative you can trial.

Decided to give a little 'push' during 2nd consultation meeting today. Said I had been 'odd-jobbing' during consultation but wasn't prepared to do so during 6 week notice period as well. Identify a proper role or I'll have PILON.

they've agreed a proper role would be identified, my job cut so bit difficult. Frankly, I couldn't care less how difficult it is, no more difficult than being made redundant and I'm having to just get on with that. Last consultation meeting next week so if I'm not happy with the role I'm going to insist on PILON.

No real policy for PILON or gardening leave so might as well make up my own as I go along. I was TUPE'd to a private company who are contracted to provide Business Support to a Local Authority. Under TUPE I come with the LA's Employment Stability Policy not their own, so they're struggling a bit. Their own policy would be to just get rid of staff as fast as possible, the LA's is to redeploy whenever possible.

Reminded them again that they should be looking for redeployment opps and pointed out that if there aren't any, they are even obliged to try to redeploy into a temporary role until a suitable permanent redeployment can be found.

They agree they must follow LA's policy but don't always appear to have read it!! Good job I take one to meetings and keep quoting from it.

Ditched my Unison rep for being completely useless, I need someone to make sure they follow the policy, not a 'consultation audience' - might as well take a pot plant along.

Don't want to be made redundant but there's a small part of me that just wants this done with.

    Thanks for advice.

Ok, if you have TUPE transfer with rights and looks they are on the back foot if they don't have a clue.

If you want to stay find a job you want to do and try to make that happen.

Read up on "bumping" you might be able to use this to your advantage.

Would they consider a CA and up the severence.
