Possible problem with garage and new car!
Hi all,
I ordered a new VW Golf back in February, and paid a £500 deposit, which I was told I could get back when I pick up my car, the new car is financed on their own solutions plan, which is fine, low interest, and a decent deal, however, when I was contacted in the past couple of days the goalposts seem to have been moved slightly.
First of all the guy that originally set up the finance is no longer there, so the new guy calls me to go over things, then I tell him that the deposit was to be returned on delivery, this is when he tells me that he didn't think that was possible as the finance deal has to have a deposit of at least 2% to get it at the low rate, I wasn't told this at the time, plus the money was only borrowed so was planning to pay back on delivery. There is also a car on a £7k part exchange with it too.
Thing is if I argue my case where I shouldn't be messed around plus it totally deviates from the initial deal that I was signing up for, I'm assuming if they don't give in and give me my £500 back and I tell them to shove the car, I'll lose my £500 initial deposit?
Or has anyone got any better advice?

I'd a problem with an Approved Used BMW - salesmans response "not much we can do", so i phoned BMW UK, following morning, Dealer Principal on the phone, gave me his personal mobile number and assured me it would be sorted.
BUT Volkswagen UK dont have a good name....0 -
You'll have to check the contract you signed.0

To return a deposit would be odd - it normally forms part of the payment / contribution to the finance deal, but if they require 2% does your part ex not cover that?0

HI all,
Thanks for you're responses.
planeboy, yeah as mentioned the 2% deposit is only just under the £500, they said they only needed it to order the car and the finance along with the part ex was fine, hence why the £500 could be refunded on delivery. The part ex is just over £7k.
mankysteve, The contract was mainly for the order, it has the deposit marked on it, with the settlement left blank, and the final finance left blank for the final settlement figure, due to the car being on order.
I suppose at the end of the day I'm more p***ed off with being told one thing and another taking place, rather than the £500, and I also suppose it is £500 less being financed, but I do plan to pop down tomorrow to see the salesperson and the finance guy and have a chat with them and if that fails I'll speak to the sales manager, or branch manager, at the end of the day it wasn't the sales person as they have a seperate person who deals with the finance packages, and it was him that made the statement, but he represents the branch and it's them that needs to take the blame, maybe thats why he's not there anymore!!Thanks to all the competition posters.0 -
Seems a lot of crap. I ordered a car costing £26k in November last year for March delivery and deposit was only £100.

I did check on the VW website and checked their finance deals and it does come up saying you need to have minimum deposit of 2% or max 30% to get that deal. Thanks to all the competition posters.0

I bought a Ford Fiesta a couple of weeks ago and paid £200 to hold the car. The £200 was refunded by cheque about 4 days later.
