Need a quick growing evergreen climber for south facing spot
We have an unsightly shed in the front garden, we need to keep it.
I would like to cover it by growing something up against it and over the top of it, the front is south facing and gets hot when the sun is out, I also need something which doesnt require cutting back to a short height over winter (otherwise the shed will be visible again!)
the shed is on concrete, so I also need to be able to put long troughs along the side and front of the shed to grow the climber in, it needs to be able to tolerate being pot grown
any ideas??

Hi
Clematis armandii is great - will fulfill all your requirements. one word of caution though, as in all containerised plants it will require feeding and watering regularly as it cannot get anything from the soil! Also worth buying a big as pot as you can to give it a fighting chance - put a mulch over the top of the compost in pot (grit/bark) to maintain water retention.Greyer by the minute - Older by the hour - Wiser by the day0 -
Cotoneaster grows quite quickly and the bees love it when it flowers. We have it covering an ugly fence near the drive. Pyracantha is similar but has masses of orange berries which look really attractive. We have a lot of wall hugging plants but they are not evergreen. Another fast growing clematis is Clematis Montana Rubens but it takes over and is really only suitable for a big space.0
