I am sure this flowered earler last year, is itjuts because spring was late?

the white variety has one flower on it

I have another tree / shrub plant - that looks a bit dry and the buds look dry and brown too , has this died? Or could it perhaps burst into life later in the year? I have lost the tag so I can't remember the name of it.

    Hi Meames
'Susan' is a late flowering Magnolia - so if the buds are looking plump and healthy then its a waiting game!
The other (unnamed!) variety sounds like it could have frost damage if the buds are brown. If it has then it is unlikely to have a full flush of flowers or may be even none.
