lilac tree - new growth - looks different to the rest

I hae a lilac tree in a pot, there are some new shoots growit from the stem, the leaves are much larger than the bush / flowering part. should I get rid of these?

    Do you know it it is a 'grafted' plant? Does it look like this and have a large 'lump' on the trunk where the bushy top meets the straight trunk?- is so then yes it will be a different Lilac that is suckering . However Lilacs are naturally multi stemmed so if you cannot see a 'graft union' then it is just the plant naturally producing more stems. Treatment for both is the same - prune/remove those shoots.

    is that in your garden - thats lovely , mine is very weedy in comaprison. I will take a photo tomorrow!
