Tax credits-Is this right?

Hi
I have a quick query about my tax credits claim, of anyone can advise me please...?
I was on maternity leave for part of last year- my annual income was 16K- when I returned to work my tax credits worked out at about £160 a week (including childcare element).
I rang the tax credits helpline at the beginning of April to advise them that my earnings this year will be 24K- I was surprised to be told that my tax credit payments will stay the same for this financial year as the award will be based on last years income as it was lower. Is this right? I am worried about having an overpayment- when I asked the lady this, she said as long as I don't earn 25K over last years income then I won't be liable for an overpayment.
This seems like madness to me?
Thanks

Hello steadfast123,
It is great that you are getting help, but now you know what/why the people working full time, the taxpayers of this country, are so up in arms about scum (not you of course, because you have been working) but the underclass who are working a couple of hours a week (men/and women). There was a time gone by that you would NEVER see a MAN working part time.
Uneducated people can get the same as people who have studied, gone to uni, etc., how they do this is?
They do not study, they take a crap job, physically ablebodied men take girly little part time jobs eg 16 hours per week, they know that they cannot/do not have the intelligence to study and better themselves, so they abuse the system with Working Tax Credits.0 -

Was there any need for that? Some people can only work 16 hours per week. And how do you know the OP doesn't pay tax and work full-time too?Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked
