No meter display!

I went to read the gas meter today for my online account and the whole display has disappeared. No numbers, nothing! I rung Transco and I have to get in touch with my supplier (of course it WOULD be bank holiday).
Has this happened to anyone before and does it mean my gas will be unmetered till it is sorted?
Oh and do you think I will have to pay for any repairs?

    You shouldn't have to pay for any repairs... it's their meter that's broken.

    The display going blank does not necessarily mean that the meter is not registering consumption.

    I understand that in many cases they can retrieve the correct reading.

    It is a meter fault if you dial the number for your supplier stay on t he line to the end of the message you should hopefully be given details of how to contact their out of ours people unless you are with npower who have no out of hours number
