Do I need to stay with talktalk when my contract was with tiscali?

I have subscribed to tiscali for my phone and broadband for a few years now and when my daughter needed to use her laptop with my internet to finish writing her PhD (and neither of us could afford to buy a wireless router) I phoned tiscali and asked if they would send me one. They agreed if I stayed with them for another year. As I was desperate I agreed. But now that they have changed to talktalk (a company I was with previously and left because of their inefficiency) am I still bound by this verbal contract? I would like to take out a Sky package but obviously can't if I am tied for another 8 months to tiscali/ talktalk.
Advise please:j

I would have thought its more than a verbal contract They would have updated your details showig how long a contract you are bound into. The only way to know for sure is to phone Talk tallk and ask when your contract runs out

    Short answer ... yes.

Long answer ... your contract was with Tiscali UK Limited trading as Tiscali. You are still being supplied by Tiscali UK Limited, but just trading as TalkTalk. Same company, different brand name so your contract still stands.

    Hi

We have just changed over from Tiscali to Talk Talk but I cant help thinking that we have been stiched up. Talk Talk rang up and offered us cheaper broadband and telephone calls but charged us a £29.99 connection fee for the priviledge, this may be for the take over of the BT line though (not sure). Talk Talk took over Tiscali anyway and as far as I was concerned we were already with them so there should not have been any connection fee. They have told me that I am fixed into a contract (which by the way was only verbal nothing signed) for the next 2 years. We have had nothing but trouble connecting with our laptops and are really tempted to say we want out with them. Any suggestions on how to go about this. They never seem to have call centres based in England and there seems to be a communication problem.

Has anyone else experienced similar problems or has any thoughts about Talk Talk.

    Hi Sboyd,

Your contract with Tiscali will still stand. If you have an alpha numeric account number your service is still being supplied by Tiscali although this service is now re-branded to TalkTalk.

    LauraM65,

TalkTalk and Tiscail are still operating as seperate companies at the moment. When did you sign up to the service and did you do this via the phone or online? The connection fee with TalkTalk is for the cost of the engineer completing the necessary work in the exchange to move you over to TalkTalks equipment.

A verbal contract is still a binding contract. Details of the terms and conditions can be found in the welcome documentation that was sent to you while the account was being set up. This includes information on the contract term and cessation fees etc.

What problems are you facing with connecting your laptops? Which router are you using? It could be worth you posting at https://www.talktalkmembers.com/forums where we can take a proper look into your account and provide further assistance.

    Cheers
    Em x

  • I have same problem, i signed up for 18 month contract with tiscali in Nov and then despite having no contact from talk talk even tho they said they had sent me a letter have been changed over to a tariff of 18.48 rather than 14.99 a month, I asked to leave or be charged the 14.99 a month i was when i was with tiscali but was informed this couldnt happen by a talk talk member of staff on the phone, and that i was still contracted to them till may next year, Surely they cant just increase the price and im still in the same contract because the contract has been broke by talk talk! Any advice anyone???
