Tells the story of Tethys, an ocean named after the Greek sea nymth, which formed some 250 million years ago, and finally disappeared just six million years ago ?

Took this extract from the site which confirms the answer is

    6 million years

I cannot copy/paste the relevant bit but I read it as five and a half million years ago

    Ten lines down?
  • Continent ground against continent and Tethys was finally squeezed
out of existence just 5½ million years ago. But there is a very rich
legacy from this past ocean hidden in the rocks of many continents

Chrris thanks for your answer, but the comp. text actually tells you to read an extract from the Vanished Ocean. The above is verbatim, and it says 5 1/2 million years :), and as BigBlokeykins remarked no time at all. You go for a swim, go back and get your towel, and lo and behold the ocean has disappeared ;)
We could all learn a little something from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.

    Thanks, Plushywushykins, I quote you

"You go for a swim, go back and get your towel, and lo and behold the ocean has disappeared ;)"

No good for the Germans, then? They put their towels out and then go in for breakfast, so probably never noticed it was there in the first place
