Thanks chookwoose, I've actually sort of forgotten the pain of having DS, so I'm blissfully unaware of how much it'll hurt at the moment lol! I'm sure it'll all come flooding back though.

I'm not 100% sure elantan, it's something to do with the midwife sweeping her finger around the membranes at the entrance to the cervix and I think it releases a hormone that ripens the cervix and can bring on labour.....but I might have misunderstood because I was too busy thinking 'it sounds horrible'.

You don't really have internal examinations during pregnancy any more (haven't had a single one yet), so the thought of it isn't very nice.....but by then I'll be willing to try anything!

Again, apologies to anyone having lunch lol!

    However, that's pretty much it...

Good friends with your midwife? You will be...

A sweep is when the midwife inserts her fingers into the ripened cervix and 'sweeps' her fingers around to amniotic sac , hopefully causing labour to start...(I'm not sure how-I just remember wanting to boot the smug woman in the face after she assured me 'you'll be in labour in 24 hours' -lying toerag)

Feels very uncomfortable and didn't work either times for me...

She did mention the word 'discomfort' although said it would be less uncomfortable if my cervix is already partly ripened (sounds like some sort of soft fruit....).

But I know when they say 'discomfort' they mean 'you'll be screaming in agony but the walls are soundproof and no-one except me will hear you, and I'll ignore you'. :D

It's like when you have blood taken and they say 'you'll just feel a little scratch', as they gouge a six inch needle into your flesh.
