I know 70mm is the standard frame, but Kommerling make a 58mm which of course gives more glass area to bays, anyone had these fitted? or comments from fitters please.

Forgot to add, composite door being fitted as well, would 58mm be sturdy enough?0

Remember that the 70mm and 58mm refers to the distance from the front to the back not width. Fitters normally like to use 70mm as it covers any old paint lines from the wooden windows that are ripped out, less trimming up. With bays it depends weather it is structural or not? As for doors usual a large outerframe is used still 58mm or 70mm front to back but wide to allow for hinged Etc.

Thanks, yes it is the frame depth but the sash size is also 12mm smaller, so more glass area, I really want to know if these compare in strength to the 70mm? are both reinforced with the same size box section steel?0

Windows are not designed to be structural as they are not load bearing. Windows are not normally reinforced as standard this has to be specified at point of order with the supplier. For BSI all doors, and run over 2400mm as sashed have to be reinforced as standard nothing else. Reinforcing doesn't really ad strengh this comes from good fitting, the reinforcing stops excessive expansion and contraction and twisting the the profile.
