using emersion heater vice gas to heat water?

just recently a few people i have spoken to have started to use there emmersion heater vice there gas boiler to heat there water especially during the summer months.
i have started to do this and was wondering if it is money saving?
is gas getting more expensive then electricity?
does anyone else do this or has heard of over people doing it?

Looking simply at the cost of energy per kWh this seems odd to me.

My current suppliers prices (EDF) per kWh are;
Electricity = 8.75 p inc vat
Gas = 2.596 p inc vat

So for the same amount of energy gas is significantly cheaper.

Note this doesn't include monthly standing charge.

It only makes economic sense to use your immersion heater if you have Economy 7 electricity.
