Nitromors

I've bought 5 litres of Nitromors from b&q. When I unscrewed the top there was nothing covering the opening, there was a silver piece of card inside the screw top - is that supposed to be covering/protecting the opening?
The reason why I ask the above question is because I'm putting a lot of effort for little gain when I'm using this application. I'm wondering if someone has half used this tin and watered it down before returning it. There are no fumes coming from it either, I've read on here that you have to open doors and windows because the fumes are pretty bad.

I think that is normal, at least it was a few years ago. The card is meant to be in the lid, but often sticks to the container.
Be careful when removing it - I found some old Nitromors many years ago, and the tin was slightly bulging. I was ready to use it, with safety gear on hand, but not actually wearing it. On removing the plastic lid, the cardboard remained stuck on the top. I poked it, it blew off with the pressure in the tin, went in my eyes and all over my face.... 20 minutes in the shower and an ambulance later, it turned out I'd washed it off quick enough to not cause problems. Seems as if it produces gas after a few years and pressurises the can.0 -
You'll probabily find that the new stuff has no DCM in it, and hence will probabily not work as well.

That old can probabily did have DCM in -fairly volatile and so would reletively easily pressurise a can.0 -
Thanks for the replies.
I've been using nitromors all morning till 1/2 an hour ago. I'm getting nowhere fast with it, All I've managed to complete is the the large piece of wood under the spindles. There is only 3 layers of paint.
I'm thought nitromors was supposed to be good. It cost £28 for 5L from b&q and from what I've experienced of it it is not worth it. I could have done more with a heat gun.
I'm concerned that it is like water when applied, I thought it would be a thicker consistency. Plus the fact there is no smell from it.
The paint does "bubble" up slightly, but I have to work hard to get down to the wood beneath.0 -
From my experience with nirtomors I found it was a lot of work for not much results. On top of that it did give me bad headaches being near it. I found a much better alternative was a paint remover gel from homebase, the name escapes me now. It just gets brushed on and left for a short while then the paint came off with wiping it using a cloth soaked in white spirit. Did a lot more area a lot quicker than nitromors and also no headaches!0

I used a lot of nitromors last year and it should not be runny like water - the consistency should be much thicker. It does pour but its definitely not runny. It was also still very effective and smelly. I used a proper mask with filters as it was the only way I could work with it for any length of time indoors.0
