Mysterious green pipe in garden

Options
We have got a plastic green pipe which runs along the length of the hedge at ground level at the side of our house (not long moved in) which disappears into the ground at each end. Does anyone know what this could be? Is there a convention which means the colour might tell me? Is it green for water, or could it be for phones/cable tv?

    In our area thats the telwest/NTL cable connection, they usually dont bother burying the connection betwen house and street,just lay it through a green pipe.

    I would gues thats most likely, unless your in a cable free area.

    NTL/Telewest as per other posters suggestion, check for a black cable running inside it, also outside the property near where pipe disappears to pavement will probably be small balck plastic circle embedded in the pavement
  • Yes...might be a NTL cable as mentioned above...check whether the black cable inside is connected to your home

    If it is on your property then cut through it and wait for the appropriate man in a white van to appear - then you will know what it is. When they do ask them how much rent they are paying to site the pipe/cable on your property.

    I get a huge £8/year or thereabouts because a telegraph pole guy line is located inside my garden.

    yeah thats def telewest/Ntl ducting.

    The standard colours used in the uk are

    Black/Red Ducting = Electricity
    Orange = Signal Equiptment eg traffic lights
    Blue = Water
    Purple = Motorway street lights/Electronic signs etc
    Grey - BT
    Green - Cable/Fiber optic
