Refund Help - John Lewis - What are our chances? **UPDATE**

Not exactly a refund as we still want the item.
But,
We bought our boys some inline skates from John Lewis this evening.
To be totally truthful we were happy with what we paid £40 a pair and they look quite reasonable and they were what we wanted for them.
BUT, when we got them home we were checking them over and I noticed on the box of our youngest son's skates it had a reduced to clear label on it, it had £17 crossed out then £12.50!! but we were charged £40. It did say £40 on the shelf and that's of course what we were expecting to pay but I'm wondering if its worth going back tomorrow?
Do we have any chance of getting them for £12.50?
Our eldest son's hadn't been marked down as they were a slightly different and newer model although they both have the same description number on the receipt. I've looked online and although youngest son's model aren't current on the JL website (apart from the same ones in pink) they seem a current model else where on the web.
So would what would you do?
I do like a bargain! but not sure if I have a leg to stand on?! Help?!
If I hadn't seen that label I'd be none the wiser! but having seen it I'm quite annoyed.
Any advice, opinions or thoughts very much appreciated.

you can all but ask but be prepared for them to say £40 was the correct price, customers move stickers all the time and you could just have been unlucky.
Also technically because you have paid you have agreed to pay £40 for them so even if they were reduced to £12.50 they could argue that you agreed to the £40 price and as such could not refund.....however I doubt they would
That makes sense, thanks jdturk. The sticker was definately mean't for that box as it had all the correct info on it, but I understand what you're saying. Thanks for replying.
Forgot to say, we didn't see the actual box before paying as we had to pay then collect from the collection point downstairs, but like you say we thought we were actually paying the £40 so not sure if we have any come back.0 -
You might as well give it a try - you have nothing to lose and MIGHT be pleasantly surprised!ELITE 5:2

It's entirely down to JL whether they refund you the difference or not, but they do have a good reputation for customer service.
If they say no you could return the item under the returns policy (if you meet the terms & the item has not been worn etc) then hope to buy it again at the lower price.0 -
I'd say you have a very good chance. If the reduced sticker was on there (a sticky barcode label with a price on it) and has the same item details (most importantly, the same stock number) then yeah, you'll get the difference back.
Make sure you take your receipt and the box. In the long run, for stock tack, they'll be glad you did. I looks like whoever scanned the item, scanned the barcode, rather than that sticker. If you're going in on a saturday, make sure you speak to a full time staff member though, rather than the saturday peeps, because they don't always have the full grasp of policies or reasons why things happen.0 -
Woohoo, very happy we went back today and got the skates at the reduced price of £12.50
Thanks Vyle, we took them back exactly as we'd bought them, in all the packaging, box, had our receipt. Popped back up to the Sports Dept, spoke to a sales assistant who dealt with it no problem at all (didn't even need to get annoyed!). He refunded the £40 we paid yesterday, then we paid again but only £12.50. A perfect result, thanks everyone. I'm so pleased we went back today.0 -
