How much disposable income do you have?

I was just wondering, after you've paid all your "fixed" bills (eg mortgage/rent, utilities, transport), how much do you have left a month to spend on food, clothes, going out etc?

Particularly interested in younger single people, as I'd like to know how I fare compared to others?

Mostly, having paid the basics (a cheap rent, minimal bills, no sky, no mobile contract, no car loan, no holidays, no debts), about £250 max. Sometimes, in some jobs, it's £150.

Not young but thought I would reply anyway!

Going out - I restrict to once a month and I go to a local pub for lunch with friends, never get rushed so we can stay gassing for a few hours over a fruit juice, we all pay pretty much what we eat/drink and I keep my spend to under £10
Clothes - only buy if desperate and I find the cheapest possible place (ebay, matalan, local market). Not bought anything new since November and that was a pair of jeans and some socks.
Food - I allow about £65 a month which includes cleaning stuff, loo rolls, toiletries etc.

Anything else (not a lot) goes against the credit card but I count it as savings and allow myself to use the card to the value of the savings if there is an emergency. Looks like the total would be £90-100 its no fun beng ancient and broke :(
    Credit card debt - NIL
Home improvement secured loans 30,130/41,000 and 23,156/28,000 End 2027 and 2029
    Mortgage 64,513/100,000 End Nov 2035
2022 all rolling into new mortgage + extra to finish house. 125,000 End 2036

I'm single and reasonably old (although I don't feel it!). After my essentials and dmp repayments, I don't have a lot left over.
Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free :)
    Mortgage free since 2014 :)
  • I'm somewhat atypical. As a young single (or rather unmarried) PhD student with an excellent stipend and part time tutoring job I have a very high income to expenses ratio. I have a lot of "disposable income" but I allow myself a max of £200 spending money and save the rest, as I'm not going to be in this position for much longer.

I end up with just under £500 to pay for petrol, food, clothes, holidays, socialising...and to hopefully make a dent in the credit card balance.

This will increase to £just under £650 in a year when my car is paid for.

When I look at it like that, it seems a fair amount. But in reality, I always seem to be broke!:(
