Renault Megane problems...

Anyone got any idea how much i'd be looking at thereabouts to get the tappets on my P reg Renault Megane 1.6 RT fixed?
They are not hydraulic tappets but adjustable ones.
The garage I took it to said they had not worked on one like mine before and so didn't seem to keen to take the job on and said I should see a Renault garage.
Now I dunno about you but I don't fancy paying the best part of £870 trillion to get it fixed!
Any ideas?
