Marriot is technically in Gateshead, but they insist on calling it the 'NewcastleGateshead', probably as more people have heard of Newcastle!
Saying that, it's only the opposite river bank really, I think (THINK!) you can walk into Newcastle city centre from there, or you can certainly book a taxi from the hotel and it isn't too far so shouldn't be very expensive. Then you're right on the doorstep of lots of restaurants with varying types of food and price levels, and it's famously full of bars, pubs and clubs!
For the daytime (if you're going out in the daytime, teehee), on the Marriot side of the river is the Sage arts centre and Baltic art gallery if you were interested in those sorts of things. Then there's Metro Centre and Newcastle for shopping, cinema, eating and drinking... Other art galleries, museums, sightseeing and things in Newcastle too.
It's a few months since I've been up there so if anyone knows better please do correct me!0 -

I think you are thinking of the Hilton. The Marriott at the Metro centre is too far to walk to Newcastle but a taxi will be about £8. Like all cities the hacks are far pricier than private hire.
At the metro centre there are loads of restaurants including wetherspoons, and cafe rouge to use your tesco rewards. Check out http://www.taybarns.com/ for really cheap all you can eat which is quite near to the marriott.
Loads of pubs and restaurants in Newcastle itself - you will be spoilt for choice in Party City. For Indian food my fav. is Latifs in ClaytonStreet West."If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken

Lots to do in Newcastle, go down to the Quayside if that not where youre staying.
All the Museums and art galleries are free in Newcastle. Try the discovery museum, great fun. and the Newly refurbished Hancocks museum. Laing Art Gallery too.
Dont forget to look above eye level to appreciate the beautiful architecturey.
i was born and bred in newcastle but havent lived there for 40 years. I still
go home for a bit of sightseeing as well as seeing family.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
terryw - Drat, I did get it mixed up with the Hilton! Sorry!
They may have started doing the open-top bus tours of the city again then, you can just hop on and off and it might be a good way of seeing a bit of the city in general.0 -

There is a Mediterranean Village in there that has Tapas, an Italian restaurant an Indian Restaurant and an all you can eat Chinese Buffet.
The town also have some lovely restaurants, there is chinatown and some lovely restaurants and bars on Dean Street which is near the Quayside.
