solar power question

Hi all
this is probably not an easy question to answer, but all advice appreciated, thankyou.
my mother-in-law is living in pakistan and there is always a shortage of electricity, so i was thinking as its so hot and sunny there why not get solar 'something' to at least power a fan for her in the summer?
does anyone think it would be possible to do something like this? solar energy is practically unheard of in pakistan as i discovered when i asked, so it would either need to be an easy to set-up system or something i can take over and possibly install myself.
thanks again for any practical feedback

Depend how DIY you want to go, and what kind of money you've got to spare.
If you use a 12v fan, a simple solar panel with battery and charge regulator should set you back more than £200 and could be proberly done for much less.0 -
thanks Mankysteve
i did not realize how much it would cost!
a 12v fan i guess is a small one? and £200 to run that seems steep, i guess i need to think deeper:T Thanks to all lovely MSE'rs - you are great friends :T0 -
