Charity days at work

I'm going to be taking charge of the 'Fun Focus' team in my workplace and I'm on the lookout for ideas. At the moment we have events every months or so where we raise money. Themed days where we dress up etc... and raise money for charities.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had success with a specific idea? We've got Macmillan Cancer Morning in Sept, followed by Halloween and Children in Need in Oct / Nov so I need some ideas to fill the summer. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Major horse racing events or festivals, eg Newmarket in July - competition for best lady's hat or gent's fancy waistcoat in racing colours. Sweepstake for small prizes - bulk of the money raised goes to the charity.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

We did once let our teddy bears go bungee jumping out of the office windows for a 50p donation. This probably works best off a tall building, and also it's not very respectful if you carry on as a funeral procession passes. To be fair, we didn't realise it was a funeral procession until it was a bit late. :o

I think we also had a 'wear a hat' day, or it could have been 'wear pink' day. Either way, I was due to have a day off, and offered my pink baseball cap to my manager. He declined. Can't think why.

Have done a "crap tie" day with everyone, ladies including wearing the most obnoxious tie they can find!! Means a bit of rummaging in charity shops as well.

In one of my previous jobs we got a set of stocks, not altogether sure where from to be honest! We then had to pay a small sum, 50p or something, to vote for which TL or manager went in said stocks, buying as many votes as you liked. The 'winners' then had wet sponges chucked at them by the staff, who again paid a small sum for the privilege. We raised hundreds!
From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!

Some schools or other organisations which run summer fairs etc on a fairly regular basis would have stocks, because it's so popular to throw wet sponges at the headteacher / vicar / boss ...

This is not exactly what you're looking for, but the following website promotes helping worthy causes during your lunch break at work, via bite sized actions.

  • Thanks so much everyone, these are all fab ideas. We'll do all of the above. We've also got the world cup so I'm planning a month long activities for that that everyone can enjoy. Any ideas again are welcome. Thanks again.
