Many local authorities are phasing out statements for children who do not have profound learning and physical difficulties. your son needs to be assessed by the schools educational psychologist in order to get extra help in class.. it may not be 1-2-1 but there should be a classroom assistant on hand to help him whenever he needs it.
There should be an annual meeting of parents with the governing body.. you might need to simpy ASK the school when these things take place.. if communication is lacking you may just not be being informed.. it is usually given in the list of dates sent out in September.. and held at the end of the year.
There will be an emergency meeting of governors to decide where to move from here. Pulling children out of the school will reduce the funding the school gets and possibly seal its closure as a small village school.. it may simply become unsustainable. It will also mean there is less money for extra tuition, facilities and equipment. Working WITH the school and becoming involved yourself as a way to moving it forward is probably the most sensible step.. is there a PTA? Is there a vacancy on the governing body? go in, speak to the head and ask questions!
