not sure if im posting on right board, but im interested in your opinions.
we are currently in the process of doing up our garden, we have a wall between our neighbours houses and ours, on 1 side there is also a fence almost on top of the wall, but it belongs to a neighbour. they have some sort of ivy growing on it and it has grew over onto our side. its big and bushy, it obscures some of our bathroom window and encourages lots of midges and suchlike in.also it has wilted and ruined our grass underneath, it also has dead birds under it. anyway, my dad said as it was hanging on our side we could chop it off, which we did. but now im worried what the neighbours will think as the plant on their side will be disjointed now. anyway were we right to do this?
sorry for going on, just wanted to make everything clear.
thanks in advance

Basically, if its hanging over your boundary you are allowed to chop it back, as far as the boundary, but you are supposed to offer the cuttings to the owner. Can't imagine why they would want it though!!Some people don't exaggerate........... They just remember big!0

Don't worry about it, you are well within your rights. I regularly hack bits off various neighbours' overhanging plants... and they regularly bits off mine.
As has been said, you are supposed to offer the bits back to the neighbour as, technically, they are still his property.0 -
i suppose i could insist he takes it, lol thats one way to get rid of it out of my gardenGloomendoom wrote: »Don't worry about it, you are well within your rights. I regularly hack bits off various neighbours' overhanging plants... and they regularly bits off mine.

One of the advantages of re-cycling, we have a large brown lidded wheelie bin that is emptied every fortnight, all my hedge trimmings and overhanging branches go in it.

No, you can't. The law says you HAVE to offer the trimmings back but if the neighbour doesn't want them, YOU have to dispose of them.0 -

yes, i was only joking. i intend to dispose of them myself.
as for the recycle bin idea, i know what you mean, it would be great but unfortunately in my area they dont really care about that, in fact they have took away our paper recycling bins!!!!!!!its a bit of a hike with a hedge to our nearest facilities, such a shame.let he without sin cast the first stone0
