Renault Laguna I
Options
Yes, I know, it'll not be the most reliable car in the world, but HOW bad are they?
Can find them for less than £500 with long (10++ month) MOT. Assuming it's had a cambelt reasonably recently, what else that's a common fault with them would stop me getting at least those 10+ months out of it?

mk1 lagunas are fairly basic so not bad
it was mainly year 2000 onwards when things went downhill.
best ones are the 1.8 or 2.0 litre 8 valve or 1.9d
strong engines although gearboxes can be weak
rust is not a major issue although the fuel tank straps rust through (easy fix)
key fobs can be troublesome but most locksmiths can sort these.0 -
Was looking at an S reg 2.0 - I imagine it's 16v though since the spec said it was 140bhp.
So gearboxes...... bearings? (ie check for whining, etc) - or something else?0 -
stiff and notchy changes
ensure cam belt has been replaced0 -
Mk1 Laguna's were the best and very eay to sell on. I ran 5 of them over a time. All were good! RXE ones were goo
Or the nice RTi with the volvo engine.

Cheers .
I'll keep an eye out then - the one I was looking at has gone already :rotfl: - hardly surprising at £395 with 12 months test.0
