if that was my problem and i knew this builder was on other jobs locally, ethical or not i would go to the site(s) that he is working on now and warn the people he is now doing work for of what he done to you.
the guy is a cowboy. if he had any decency he would try to finish your job before starting anything else.
i would also confront him but thats just me. the fact he accepted a cheque from you on the 5th and the company went down the tubes on the 10th is rotten, rank rotten. he will have known that is was about to happen and its basically theft.0 -
call channel five - cowboy builders.
Go round his house with "the boys" and ask for either money or work to be completed*

Hi
Just in case anyone was looking I thought I would give an update
Things have gone from bad to worse.
We decided to get our architect round and he said that the work was shoddy but he would get on to it.....2 hours later we have our structural engineer round and all starts going downhill.
our new roof is not supported and is just leaning on the main roof.
the ceiling joists over the old kitchen have been cut to put a truss in and so we now have acro props holding it up.
The roof trusses are not sitting on the supports properly and have been put up with wrong spacings.
the whole roof has to come off to put in proper supports.
And thats just the structural stuff.
The building inspector was called out and he will not pass...the windows (wrong size and type), the lintels (have to be cut out and redone as they are wrong size), ceiling joists where they were cut (need all new ones), plumbing (wrong pipe used) and other bits I cant remember but have been added to a list.
Oh and the harling is falling off so it needs to be completely cut off and redone.
I have contacted the original builders son who started the "new" business and he says he will come and do the work but will charge us the going rate as its not his responsibility. His dad will not have anything to do with us.
I have contacted different media types who are looking into it but I havent heard from them for a couple of weeks now so they probably dont want to or cant help us.
Trading standards were as much use as a chocolate fireguard and said the builder has done nothing wrong.
I am at the stage where I dont want to be in this house anymore but I dont have a choice.
The kids are fed up with me being miserable all day and I dont know how to pull myself together.
I dont know what to do anymore. I suppose its just a case of saving up again and hopefully being able to start the work next summer on our own.
Sorry for the moan am just feeling sorry for myself and noone here wants to hear anymore of my blubbering.
Will shut up now.I MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING0 -
I think this may be in the wrong forum now so if it is could someone let me know how to move it and where to.
Thanks
SamI MAY HAVE NOTHING.....BUT ITS MY NOTHING0 -
Sorry to hear about all your problems - ours wasn't quite as bad but its costing a lot to put right and get it finished. There is some light at the end of our tunnel - just hoping its not the train
take lots of pictures and spread the word to anyone who will listen.0
