Have set up wireless and secured with WPA. Laptop recognises connection however cannot access the internet, shows message: Forbidden, you are denied access because: access denied by access control list.
As a side note AVG has connected and is able to receive updates.
Any ideas?

what make/model router are you using? From the top of my head you may need to 'allow' your laptop external access through the router. Check the "LAN client" list or "connected clients" list - really depends on the router.
Triple check the key you entered.
Temporarily disable the WPA and see if you can connect and get out then. I so check the step above and quadruple check.
depending on the router open internet explorer on the laptop and type 192.168.2.1 (may be 192.168.1.1 on some routers) see if you get to your router setup page.
on the laptop open a command prompt and type "ipconfig" see if you have been given an IP address by the router.0 -
have you told ie to never dial a connection in tools internet options connections? which isp?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

isp is NTL, router is linksys wireless-G broadband router and notebook adapter. Have set to 'never dial a connection' the laptop has an ip address and will send emails, windows and other programs are able to access the internet and update however we cannot access any webpages.0

Have you got anything else plugged into the cable modem? If so unplug it. So you should have the cable from outside plugged into the cable modem then the linksys plugged into that. Switch both off the cable modem and linksys. Turn on the linksys then the calbel modem. See if this helps. Commonly the cable modems barf if you have a router plugged into it and then other Pcs plugged into the cable modem. Worth a try.
can you 'ping' external sites? such as 'ping www.google.com' in command prompt0 -
Thanks to all. Managed to sort out.0

On Desktop in IE, tools, options, connection, the DNS server was highlighted. Once un-checked, was able to connect to IE on laptop. Hope this helps.0
