Need URGENT Advice Please!

Hi All

I have been paid today and woke up this morning at 3am and checked online to find only £250 left in my account, looking at the statement a cheque for £1035 (which has since been paid by debit card from my other account) has been cleared. I cancelled this cheque 3 days ago, even went into branch to do so, was charged £10 for doing so and still it has left my account.

Im waiting until 7am to phone the bank immediately, but i wanted to know what are the chances of getting the money back into my account today, my rent/council tax/car payment leaves my account tomorrow by DD and i cannot afford for this to happen now.

As it only left the account this morning and its previously been cancelled are the bank able to re-credit it immediately? It's Alliance & Leicester.

Can anyone put my mind at ease for the next few hours?

Thanks

IMO they should do. The only issue is if the people aren't authorised to do it, and it has to go via a complaints process or similar....

if you've got access to funds elsewhere I'd be ready to move some cash around if you don't get anywhere, and record any costs you incur for a complaint to A&L.

Thanks for the quick reply, thats the problem, i dont have access to cash elsewhere and dont have anyone to rely/fall back on. Im terrified at the moment as i doubt my landlords would be sympathetic.

Pheww.... The nice lady refunded it immediately and apologised. Thank god for that! 1 up for A&L :T

I am glad that you are now able to pay your rent but have A&L given you the £1035 as compensation (unlikely) or are they not honouring the cheque even at this late stage ?

If they refuse to honour it you should check the T&Cs for your credit card as it is possible that you may be charged a fee for that even if you have paid the balance by other means.

They're not honouring the cheque, she said the branch hadnt cancelled it fully and she did it along with the refund. I paid the balance by debit card from another current account which had built up enough in it to cover it, but no more.
