what would you do in this siuation?
My new ceramic hob was fitted 3 months ago.
My husband is a keen cook, and bought a new heavy fry pan, made by Stellar, which cost £ 40. this has scratched the hob, with normal use. I am very annoyed about it, and with prolonged use I dont want any firther damage .
so, who can i complain to? Is the hob unfit for purpose, or is it the fault of the Fry pan?
my last ceramic hob lasted 18 years and, still worked when i replaced it. We use a lot of Myers pans.quite heavy ones too, and they were fine.
I wonder if the Stellar make is only for use on gas hobs, I dont have any info on it as OH bins labels etc!

Stellar are the premium brand of Uk family company Horwoods (Bristol). Stellar pans are suitable for all hobs unless it is an old make, which will not work on induction.
I too have a glass top hob (induction) and I have a small scratch from a cast iron griddle.
It is not the weight of the pan which will damage the hob, but the way it is used. Most induction pans now come with a warning to use carefully on glass top hobs. However, it could be that the base of your pan is damaged, you may want to inspect it to check there is not a default on the base.
You could try some hob cleaner, which should minimise the 'damage' appearance, it did make my scratch look much smaller.
I would be inclined to go back to your hob manufacturer and ask what their recommended brand of pan would be, if they don't have one, then tell them what has happened.0 -
thanks for your very useful reply.
I bought the hob from j Lewis and its their own brand, so i shall ask them about it.
I spoke with a dept manager from a local store, she said she would question how 2 seemingly smooth surfaces could both be scratched, unless the pan was damaged, as you suggested, or whether I had caused scrathing to the pan by the way I stored it!!
I have never used hob cleaner, but perhaps I should try it.
