Is £5400 a good price for a mini one diesel 2003? They seem so expensive but love them! Anyone got one and can tell me average mpg?

  • MINIs vary considerably as there are a huge range of extras available that will push the price up, they are very expensive to buy but very often hold their value greater than any other car.

£5400 doesn't seem too bad but you could try and haggle down a bit. Also depends on whether it's a private sale or dealer and if there is a warranty, as well as mileage, general condition, history etc. Take a look through Autotrader, Gumtree, Ebay and any other websites to see what they selling for.

I don't actually have one but the official figures are around 58 mpg's which is good, but the the downfall of the MINI One D is low power especially when compared to the 1.6 Cooper D which gets about 74 mpg, but only came out in 2007 and are extremely expensive.

The 2003 MINI D was one of the first MINI diesels out. It used a 1.4 Toyota Yaris Diesel engine which was pretty gutless in such a heavy supermini. Definitely test drive one to see if you get on with the engine and the appalling ride.

Also check out the threads on here for the possible failure of the power steering which is common and expensive. Check out the forums on https://www.mini2.com and https://www.totalmini.co.uk for ownership experiences.

My heart is saying go for what you love, but my head is saying: "It's a 7 year old car and you could buy a decent eurobox for £5,400." :D

£5000-£5400 appears to be the going rate for an independent dealer.
They hold their value far too well to be good value as a used buy. If your the sort that likes to buy brand new there is almost no other car you can buy that depreciates this slowly.
One of those cases where buying nearly new and selling on before warranty expiring is actually the cheapest way to do it based on total cost of ownership so long as you have the means to pay the purchase price. If you do the sums and account for all costs 3+ year old cars have that younger ones don;t you'll see what I mean.

I'd probably put my £5400 into something like these:

As someone once said to me 'Mini's hold their value like *hit to an army blanket'.

BUT! make sure that it is specced i.e. not JUST the basic model.

They are great to run/drive and are perfectly ok for tooling around in.

If it doesnt have toys walk away, if it does then I personally dont think that that figure is too off the mark.

Yep, needs the chili/salt/pepper whatsits, the tlc plus pack will have ended by now, and you can check the history with BMW customer services - it MUST have at least a partial main dealer history or it's worthless.
    Good cars, but sluggish.
    Hold their value well.
I'd rather be in a Mini than a newer Punto.

Goto an auction you will easily knock £1500 off that price.
